Leadership Portal

Acknowlegements

The Leadership Portal was conceived at Northwestern University and is the product of the time and talent of many individuals and departments, led and funded by the Center for Leadership in partnership with the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science’s Office of Information Technology.

Three groups have been especially helpful in understanding how the Portal can benefit student learning:

  • The Teamwork Assessment has benefitted from a working partnership with the faculty and students involved in Design Thinking and Communication (DTC), formerly Engineering Design and Communication (EDC). For nearly 20 years this course, an exceptional partnership involving faculty from the Weinberg College of Arts & Sciences Writing Program and the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science’s Segal Design Institute, has emphasized teamwork instruction and experience. Each year approximately 40 faculty and 350 students work with the Leadership Portal to help improve students’ teamwork. The Assessment aids their work, and in turn their insights improve the way in which students and faculty use this tool. Special thanks to the DTC core faculty committee and those instructors who have generously shared their ideas with us.
  • Other colleges and universities have proven to be excellent collaborators as they use the Portal at their campuses and offer their suggestions for how to improve the Portal. Our current partners include: Claremont McKenna College, Georgia Institute of Technology, and Texas Tech University.
  • Leadership Fellows, in particular Nicholas Pearce and Koshonna Brown, have provided insights and research assistance based on their use of the Portal and how they have observed students use these tools.
